As a Facility and Event Coordinator for the city of Las Vegas, I've had the privilege of permitting and scheduling over a thousand different events at our local parks and at City Hall. From running events to weddings to company picnics to Celebration of Life events, I help event organizers think about the things that might make their event go more smoothly. Often these private events are just for their family, friends, classmates or congregation. Other times the events can bring in a few hundred visitors to each of the facilities. Some of our larger festivals can bring anywhere from 3,000-5,000 visitors. The events at City Hall tend to be smaller and focused on trainings for professionals, meetings for big decision making or ceremonials for academy graduations and government employee retirements. Each one of these events is unique in their own way.... yet each one serves our community.
I've really enjoyed helping others bring their big ideas to our city spaces. It's not always easy for people and outside organizations to cut through the red tape, but that's what I am here to help facilitate. In the months ahead, I will be the Facility and Event Coordinator for our city’s new Civic Center—a space designed to bring people together, spark creativity, and celebrate community.
Our Civic Center is more than just a building. It features multiple spaces to accommodate a variety of special events. Situated across the street from the Las Vegas City Hall, the Civic Center will provide some much needed office space for government employees as well as space for tenants to include the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Connections and a couple of restaurants.
Three spaces will play host to thousands of meeting and special events in the year ahead:
The Public Meeting Room—a flexible, modern space that can host everything from city council meetings to community workshops, business forums, and private rentals. It’s tech-equipped, accessible, and perfect for fostering civic engagement.
Next is the Then Café, a cozy spot where employees can connect over coffee, enjoy local treats, or simply unwind during the day. It’s meant to serve as a casual gathering place that adds everyday energy to the center as well as a reception space for special events.
And finally, the heart of it all: our Outdoor Plaza. This is where the community really comes to life. We’re planning cultural festivals, live music, seasonal celebrations, and a weekly farmers market—all designed to reflect the diversity and spirit of our city. It’s an open-air venue that invites participation, supports local businesses and artists, and provides a consistent rhythm of activity throughout the year.
As the Facility and Event Coordinator, I will manage event scheduling and contracted services for these events for all of these spaces—overseeing scheduling, logistics, and vendor coordination. But more importantly, I see myself as a connector: making sure every group that walks through our doors feels welcomed, supported, and inspired to use the space in a way that strengthens our community.
Whether it’s a nonprofit hosting a fundraiser, a local band playing their first outdoor show, or neighbors gathering for a Farmer's Market—I collaborate with our Special Events team, local businesses and non-profit organizations to help turn those ideas into seamless, successful events. We’re not just managing a facility—we’re building momentum for community impact.
At the end of the day, it’s all about building a Civic Center that’s not just a location, but a destination—a place where culture, connection, and community thrive.
